Peters Wins Indiana Mr. Football
The postseason awards continue to roll in for Avon (Ind.) quarterback Brandon Peters, and the latest is the Indy Star's Indiana Mr. Football. The 6-4, 195-pounder was also named the Gatorade Player Of The Year for Indiana last week.
“You’d see him in practice and know those are throws that a typical high school quarterback cannot make,” Avon coach Mark Bless said. “That was eye-opening. But to see him do it in a game was something else. His teammates had great confidence in him.”
Peters made a big move in the Rivals.com recruiting rankings this week, climbing 102 spots from No. 242 overall nationally to No. 140. He is the No. 5 pro-style quarterback in the country and the No. 3 senior in Indiana.
As a senior, he passed for 3,103 yards and 37 touchdowns with just five interceptions. He also scored three touchdowns on the ground for an Avon team that he helped lead to a 10-3 record and a regional championship in Indiana's largest division.
Peters will enroll at Michigan next month, getting a spring practice under his belt - and a head start on his college career.
He is U-M's first Indiana Mr. Football since quarterback Clayton Richard in 2002. Richard left Michigan after his first two years on campus to pursue a Major League Baseball career. He has played eight years in the majors, for the Chicago White Sox, San Diego Padres, and Chicago Cubs.
