Denard Robinson Impressed With Michigan Football's Florida Haul

Former Deerfield Beach, Fla. product and Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson, now with the Jacksonville Jaguars, got a glimpse of the program's future when he saw Pembroke Pines, Fla., Flanagan standouts Devin Bush Jr., Devin Gil and Josh Metellus line up against his former high school team this fall.

Robinson said he had a "whoa" moment when he saw the three in action and learned two of them had pledged to Michigan.

"I said, 'that's great.' That's the kind of players Michigan needs," he recalled, noting all three stood out to him on the field.

Inside linebacker Bush Jr. joined his teammates later in pledging closer to Signing Day, and he enrolled early. Robinson was among those who saw Bush at the program's Signing of the Stars event, one in which he participated.

"Me, I was more low profile, under the radar," Robinson said with his signature smile. "Now guys want to be announced by Tom Brady, Ric Flair, Derek Jeter. Of course you're going to feel welcomed when it's by somebody like that.

"They're celebrities, and only 18 years old. There's so much ahead of them. Coming to Michigan is going to be a great opportunity for them."

Robinson made one of the introductions himself, and he was nervous about how it would go.

"It was crazy," he said. "During the pre-trial runs, the whole thing, it was different - like, 'how is this supposed to go?' When you see it you're like, 'this is comfortable ... a great idea.' It was almost like draft day. You had guys announcing, breaking down highlights, Todd McShay breaking you down just like the draft - and coming to Michigan is like being drafted.

"Theres no next step for this. I'm not sure how you compete with this next year."

Chances are head coach Jim Harbaugh will try.

"What he brings to the program is an enthusiasm, that leader that you need a s head coach or as a coach, period," Robinson said. "He has a winning mentally ... he's going to have success everywhere he goes like he has before."
